As many of you know, I announced my pregnancy back in January. Well today, it is time to announce our baby’s gender! But WAIT! Don’t skip ahead to the end to find out quite yet. There is a pretty funny story to tell about this particular gender reveal that you won’t want to miss.
Nick and I had the 20-week ultrasound yesterday at 1:30 in the afternoon. But we had decided that we didn’t want to find out the gender at the appointment – we wanted to wait until Reagan got out of school so we could all find out together. Sitting through that appointment, and looking away from the monitor every time the ultrasound technician scanned toward the bottom of our baby’s body, was torture. We were both so excited to know – will we have that little girl we really want? Or will we have another amazing boy?
We did find out at the appointment, that our baby was healthy! All of its organs were growing at normal rates and its weight is right on track for its due date. We saw its heart beat, watched it cover its sweet little face with its arm, and counted its 10 little fingers.
Unfortunately for us, waiting on for Reagan also meant waiting at least another hour than usual. Thursdays Reagan stays after school until 4:30. Ahhh, the torture continued! But we finally picked him up, had not peeked out our mystery envelope, and made our way to meet my friends and photographer, Kim and Connor Burke with K.D. Burke Photography, for a special gender reveal photo session.
Nick and I really wanted to make the reveal special for not only us, but for Reagan as well. We thought he would enjoy having the opportunity to spray silly string at us, so we picked up PINK and BLUE silly string at Party City earlier that day. The plan was Reagan would be the first to see the ultrasound and find out the baby’s gender, then Nick and I would find out once Reagan started spraying us with the matching color of silly string. Kim would capture all it with her camera. Great plan … right???
YAYYYY!!! It’s a GIRL!! Right?? Check out Nick’s reaction and that huge grin on my face. Ahhh, a girl … just what we wanted. Thoughts of pink, purple, bows, dresses, and pedicures with a little mini me ran through my mind. And Nick, he just couldn’t wait to be wrapped around a little girl’s finger.
BUT WAIT ….
Connor is behind Kim and her camera looking at that ultrasound really hard. We start to hear him say, “Ummmmm, hmmmm. And shake his head.” Nick looks at him dumbfounded. What the heck is going on?? Perhaps we should try this again.
We’re still not sure what really happened – was Reagan playing an early Aprils Fools joke on us, or did he really just misread that crazy ultrasound. I mean, ultrasounds can be pretty confusing, especially for an 11-year-old. But this time we knew for sure, the color was correct – It’s a BOY!! And just a boy – no we’re not having twins, thank goodness 🙂
We are having a little boy. Wow! (Read more about my thoughts on that here.)
So I guess I’m officially a true Boy Mom, one that loves the sweet, sweet love only boys can give their mother. Nick will get to raise a little boy from birth and watch him grow into an amazing man. And Reagan can share his loving nature and funny antics with his brother, and be a mentor and friend to him. We are truly blessed.
